Dedication. Leadership. Passion.

Cheryl Hanson

President

My interest in equality for women dates back to the 1970’s when I, along with friends, marched for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. AAUW’s dedication to equity, as well as the scholarships we offer to help individuals improve their circumstances, make me committed to the organization.

Laurie Glowac

Secretary

I joined AAUW to meet like minded women when I moved to the Northwoods knowing only one other woman. I have stayed because of the mission of AAUW to support women and girls, and because of the wonderful friends I have made, especially through our excellent book club, programs and volunteer opportunities.

Joining AAUW means community, friendship, and service. I believe that belonging to AAUW is a great way to be an active member of the community and help support young women.

Debbie Roder

Membership and District 5 Coordinator

I was invited to an AAUW branch meeting, after retiring as an RN, to the Northwoods.

It was exciting to see the fellowship these like-minded women enjoyed and learn about the mission and advocacy for women and girls’ equity they shared. Through excellent programs/branch meetings, fund raising for scholarships for women wanting to further their education, book club and new friendships, I’m a believer in AAUW.

I want to see us grow.

I love that we are all about advocating for women and girls with the ultimate goal of equality for all. Locally, we raise money for scholarships at Nicolet College. Through membership in AAUW, I am part of a national movement advocating for women and girls in Washington DC. I have been a member since 2015, and also served as past President and Secretary.

Honoring
Betty McCleary

Leading the way and making AAUW Northwoods history

Betty McCleary has been involved with AAUW since the late 1970’s. She served as Branch Co-President from 1987-1990 and was a recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Fund Award in 1993. This award honors an individual, project, organization, or institution for outstanding contributions to equality and education for women and girls.

Betty was an avid reader and valued participant in the Book Club even after her 100th birthday; she loved the luncheons and programs! Betty was instrumental in bringing many new members into the organization. She was always a passionate champion of women’s rights and was beloved by all who were lucky enough to know her. We are happy to honor Betty McCleary’s legacy into the future with a NCCWSL scholarship for young women.

Thank you, Betty, for the many years of kind hearted dedication!
